SILVERSTONE race circuit has been recreated on the continent… in the heart of Swedish Lapland.
Motorsport enthusiasts looking for a wintery racing thrill in the New Year will be able to drive the famous corners of the 3.66-mile British Grand Prix Formula One Circuit… on ice.
Silverstone F1 circuit is the latest to be added to a collection of full-size race tracks recreated in ice in the village of Arjeplog, just a few kilometres south of the polar circle, by local company Laponie Ice Driving, which offers enthusiasts the chance to drive one of its fleet of sports vehicles around some of the most iconic circuits in the world, formed from ice and snow.
Katie Tyler, spokeswoman for Silverstone, said Laponie had offered a commercial opportunity which fitted in well with Silverstone’s brand.
She said: “They replicate other international circuits and have done a number of well-known Formula 1 circuits, so it was nice of them and we are honoured they chose Silverstone to replicate. It was a good opportunity for us and we enjoyed working with them.
“They paid us to use the Silverstone layout and in return we will advertise them on our website for people who might be interested in what they offer.
“We will always look at opportunities like this, and if we can work with people we will. If the opportunities fit our brand messages we will work with partners.
“This had a nice fit with what we do, and was a good way of spreading the Silverstone message.”
Tickets and hospitality packages are now available for The British F1 Grand Prix at Silverstone.
